New Short Story, "Inappropriate Content" is Now Available!

Eric's comic book store has a problem. A strange pair of tricksters have somehow inserted themselves into several of the comics, as if they were penciled and inked there in the first place. First Eric has to figure out how many of his books now feature their antics. Then he has to figure out how to stop them. Will he still have a store when this is through?

The paperback is also on its way shortly!

Two Giveaways and a Discount

First off, I'm doing a Countdown Deal on my short story "Marisa at the Beach." It's only $0.99 now, then will increment up to $1.99 in a couple of days, before going back to its original price. So for less than the cost of a convenience store bottle of Coke, you can get an original short story about robots!

In addition, "The Fortuna Givers' Festival" and "This Wasn't Part of the Lease" are free today and tomorrow!

All three books are also available in short paperbacks, if that's more your taste. And if you get one of the free stories and want to show some support, you can order any of the other books in my Quick Fiction series, or come back here and click on the "Support Me" button in the corner!

Thank you for reading!

Now Available: The Fortuna Givers' Festival

Mount Me has erupted, choking the town of Fortuna in smoke. Harold Garland and his wife are about to move out when Harold is chosen by lottery to present an offering to an ancient beast that's believed to live inside the mountain. He's given no choice, but if this creature is real, will Harold make it home in one piece?

For this one, I'm trying something of an experiment: I also whipped together a paperback version, so if ebooks aren't your style, you can still order this story in print!

"The Fortuna Givers' Festival" is available here!

New (Old) Story Now Available!

Allergic to Astroturf

Dara adores her new pet, a strange critter from outer space. But her friend Keli can't stand him, and starts claiming to be allergic to him. Will Dara have to choose between her friend and her alien?

This is actually an old story I've published before. I had it on Kindle for a while, then included it here on the website and in my collection, Unheard Of. I decided I needed something of a break this week--I've been preoccupied with drawing--so I decided to make it part of the Quick Fiction series as well. As such, I'm (possibly temporarily) taking it off this website, except for a preview.

And since it's already available in other venues via Smashwords, I sadly won't be able to do any giveaways for this one.

The cover is actually the same artwork as before, just recolored. And it actually went up on Amazon yesterday, but I wanted to change the background color before I started promoting it. Naturally I'll be adding the cover art to the gallery.

Thank you for reading!

Updated Cover For One Story, Updated Price for Another

I made a few tweaks to some of the Quick Fiction stories.

First, as of now, the first story in the series, "A Meeting of Minds," is now only $0.99—permanently!

Second, I've modified the cover art for "The Emperor." Amazon doesn't seem to have quite pushed it through just yet, but here it is right here:

"Escape to Sanctuary" now available!

Monsters roam outside Pearl's apartment, but she's through letting them keep her prisoner. Accepting an invitation to meet up with her brother, she slips out and leads the monsters in a chase through town. The journey is perilous, but Pearl knows if she finds her brother, only then will she be safe.

"Escape to Sanctuary" is available only on Amazon Kindle for $2.99, and once again, Kindle Unlimited subscribers can read for free! I'll also be adding the cover art to the gallery shortly. Just click here to buy!

Thanks, and new artwork.

"First Defusion" and "Advanced Color Theory" are back at their original price. I'm still amazed at how many people ordered; if nothing else, I've learned promoting on r/FreeEbooks definitely works. If you liked these stories, please check out the rest of my Quick Fiction series, or if you just want to chip in, click "Support Me" down in the corner.

My first KDP Select renewals are coming up soon, so I'm changing things up a little. I'm still doing giveaways on new stories a week after releasing them, but for stories over 90 days old, I'll be doing Countdown Deals. I'm also going to see if I can make one of them permanently free.

Finally, I'm still adding new artwork to the illustration gallery. This time, it's a quick paint sketch of Sonia, the heroine of my novel Thresholds of the Grand Dream, this time showing off her anger issues:

You can see more art on my Instagram.

It finally happened. One of my short stories has topped a category on Amazon! "First Defusion" is now #1 in free 40-minute science fiction & fantasy short reads! Thanks to everyone who downloaded a copy!

Meanwhile, "Advanced Color Theory" is currently #2 in Free 30 minute SF&F Short Reads, and #3 in Fiction & Literature! Let's see if I can top 2 categories!

New Artwork and New Giveaway

First off, I've added a new picture to the illustration gallery, of a character from a yet-to-be-published manuscript I have sitting in my hard drive:

Second, it's time for another giveaway! This week, it's "Advanced Color Theory" as well as my latest, "First Defusion," both science fiction. Just click on the covers to go to their Amazon pages:

New short story, "First Defusion," is now available!

A little later than usual, but here it is:

FIRST DEFUSION

As a child on the planet Vemmler, Larin Nichols was blinded and scarred by a forgotten explosive from an old war. Now she uses her cybernetic eyes to work in search-and-rescue on the frontier. When two children get trapped in a cave, Larin finds herself having to defuse the same type of bomb that injured her and killed a dear friend. She's done well in simulations, but this is the real thing, armed and ready to detonate. Only by going in and staring death right in the face will Larin save these kids.

When writing this story, I liked coming up with the logistical problem of a mine that only activates when you get too close, and only detonates when you get too far away. The cover was a particular challenge--for one thing, I had to figure out how to draw crystals, and with the sphere in front, had to do a lot of overpainting to get the panel the way I wanted. The mosaic effect represents Larin's ability to shift her vision outside the normally visible spectrum.

"First Defusion" is just $2.99, and exclusively available on Amazon Kindle. Click here to purchase. If you have Kindle Unlimited, you can read it for free, and I still get royalties.
